We have been studying The Viewer by Gary Crew and Shaun Tan. Last week you created an image to represent your chosen era in history for the empty viewer disc. This week, write a story of the viewer from the viewpoint of a character born in your chosen era of history. Include how they fall into the space like Tristan did.


Last week during library time, you chose your reading books. You should all have these! Read three chapters of your chosen book this week, then write a book review. Include: title and author, an overview of the chapters, what you liked and disliked, who you would recommend the book to and why. We will start a book blog ‘Year 5 Reads’ where we can post our comments about the books we are reading.


Criticise, advertise, capitalise, finalise, equalise, fertilise, terrorise, socialise, visualise, vandalise.

If you are unsure of the meanings of these words, look them up, then write a sentence using the word correctly.


This term we have looked at how we can use adverbs to indicate the degree of possibility.

certainly, almost, really, maybe, unlikely, possibly, surely, indeed, probably, potentially.

Write a sentence using all the examples given and explain the degree of certainty.


We have spent this term learning fractions. During the last two weeks we have been looking at the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages. Please complete the related FDP questions in your Home Learning booklets.

This term we have been looking at how our country is changing. Write a magazine article on changes in your local area. Create a map of your local area to include in your article.


We have been learning about what Jesus did to save human beings. Last week we discussed, ‘Why did Jesus die?’ This week, think about a time when you have done something that you have felt sorry for. Imagine what it would be like to be able to take all the wrongs you have ever done or said, and they disappear. Write a paragraph about a time when you have felt saved and relate this to Jesus’ sacrifice.


This term we have been learning about celebrating diversity. Last week, you performed scenarios showing how some groups are excluded in communities. This week, create a poster raising awareness of how people can be discriminated against. Include what we can do to avoid this happening and to promote inclusion.


As part of our topic on ‘Scientists and inventors’, you will be doing some research on different scientists and inventors.

This week, read as much as possible about Sir David Attenborough, then write up in paragraphs what you have found out about him.

Can you find out the following?

· What strand of Science is he known for/ what does he do?

· Five facts about his early life, for example: Where did he grow up?

Watch one of his documentaries and use it as inspiration to write your own documentary about an animal of your choice. Think about what you will need to include in your documentary. How will you make it exciting and educational?

Perhaps you could perform your documentary to your family!


Using your chosen media, create a portrait of a family member.
