On Monday Reception Class went to explore the church. First of all they measured the church by holding hands and spreading across the width, nineteen children was just enough. Then they tried to see how tall the church was using a helium balloon. They found out that the arches were eight children high.
Then they split up into small groups and took turns to build the church from wooden blocks, make brass rubbings, use maps to find certain features of the church, count the columns and walk around the outside of the church to find out how many doors there were.
Everyone came back together to look in the special hatch at the front of the church and the children were very surprised to find a ‘secret swimming pool’. They discovered that this is for baptising people in by dipping them in the water.
Everyone had a great time. The children all agreed that it would be good to go back and explore the church even more.
