The Year 5 and 6 classes have had the opportunity to participate in two different workshops recently. On Friday, Hazel from the Just Enough UK group visited to deliver an interactive workshop about ‘modern slavery’. For many, this was a new and unfamiliar topic. In fact, many of the students believed that slavery only existed in the past. The students now have a new awareness of the unfortunate circumstances experienced by an alarming number of individuals in our world.
On Monday of this week, we had staff from Equaliteach work with our students on ‘critical thinking skills’. During Monday’s workshops the Year 5s and 6s explored stereotypes, challenged misconceptions and considered the various influences on ideas and opinions. There was lots of meaningful discussion had by all and the presenters were very impressed with how engaged and articulate our students were during the sessions .
