Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome to the start of the school year.

Home Learning
This year home learning will mainly focus on consolidating learning from the week; however, on occasions, may be set to secure a foundation level knowledge for the coming week.

Your child is expected to read for a minimum of 15 minutes every night. I cannot stress enough how important it is that your child is reading each night. Current research has shown that regular reading is directly linked with a child’s education success. This success has been proven to be further extended when adults such as parents or careers read with their children. So please as much as possible read with your child. Children’s journals will be checked every day. They can borrow books from their classroom as often as they like.

Physical Education (PE)
Our P.E. days are Tuesdays. Please make sure your child has their P.E. kit in school on these days. PE kit consists of shorts or tracksuit bottoms, trainers and a T-shirt, all labelled with your child’s name. Please ensure that your child’s PE kit is brought into school in a labelled bag.

This year in Year 6, we will be swimming on Monday afternoons. All children should bring a swimming costume, swimming goggles and a towel in a bag for that day. Please ensure all clothing is named and bags are easily identifiable.

Drinks and Fruit
Year 6 children are encouraged to bring a bottle of water to school with them. They will be allowed to drink in lesson time as well as at break time. The bottles should go home every evening to be refilled and returned to school the next day. They may also bring a piece of fruit which can be eaten at break time.

Beginning and End of the day
Children should be in the playground ready for the school day to start, by 8.50am, when we ring the bell. Thank you. We will bring the class down to the playground at the end of each day at 3.25pm. If you wish to see one of us, we will be available then or you are welcome to make an appointment with Miss Timms, if you require more time.

In Year 6 children are given the opportunity to leave school and walk home by themselves; if you want to allow this, please complete the separate form that was sent on 6th September.

We look forward to working with Year 6.
