Maths- Position and Direction
In maths, Year 2 have been learning about Position and Direction. They used spinners to help them solve problems involving clockwise and anticlockwise turns.
English- Claude in the City by Alex T.Smith
In English, Year 2 have been studying the book 'Claude in the City' by Alex T. Smith. This week, the children hot-seated the characters from the story in preparation for writing a newspaper article about an event that takes place.
History- Florence Nightingale
This term, Year 2 have been inspired by the life of Florence Nightingale. The children used chromebooks to research the main events of her life before using this information to create a timeline.
This week in history, the children took it in turns to play the roles of Florence Nightingale, a nurse and a soldier during the Crimean War. The children used their knowledge about Florence Nightingale's life to answer questions asked by the rest of the class.
DT- Recycled Toy Cars
This week, the children have been busy designing and making cars out of recycled materials. Next week, they will be making the wheels and axels.
Art- Clay Sculptures
Year 2 are supporting the 'Send a Cow' charity by growing vegetables in the classroom in preparation for a plant sale. The money raised will help families in Africa to grow their own food.
The plant sale was a huge success! Thank you to all who so generously donated to the 'Send a Cow' charity.
Living Things and their Habitats
This week in science, the children have been identifying the living things that live in different habitats, including the school pond and garden. The children have been thinking about how these living things are well suited to their habitats.
Today, the Year 2 children thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to read with the Year 1 children.
