Summer 1 Week 4

In English this week we have been focusing on writing a story based on the structure of our text ‘The Dragon Machine’ by Helen Ward. The children have done a great job of including  prefixes, suffixes and prepositions.
In Maths this week we continued our unit on Position and Direction, describing movement and turns. 
In RE this week the children enjoyed posing their questions to practicing Muslims  for our unit on Islam. They are looking forward to visiting a local mosque!
In PSHE we have engaged in circle time discussing Mental Health Awareness Week. 
 

Summer 1 Week 3

In English this week we have been focusing on writing sentences which include noun phrases and a variety of interesting verbs. You could ask your children if they can use noun phrases to describe objects around your home and street or interesting verbs to describe what they are doing.

 

In Maths this week we have started our unit on Position and Direction. You could ask your children to describe the position of objects around the home.

 

The children have enjoyed debugging on JIT Turtle in Computing where they were changing the commands to reprogram the device. They did a great job at putting their Maths position and direction knowledge to good use!

Welcome back!

We have had a fun filled week in KS1! The children enjoyed their visit to the British Library where they had the opportunity to build on their story making skills. They then came back to class and wrote their own short stories to read to the class.
In English this week the children have been using a range of sentences to write their encyclopaedia of dragons based on our text ‘The Dragon Machine’ by Helen Ward.
In Maths the children have been very excited about measuring objects in the classroom and playground. They have been measuring in centimetres and metres, comparing and ordering lengths.
 

Happy Easter!

The children have had a week full of fun activities to end the Spring Term. They thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Hyde Park on Wednesday as a reward for all their hard work this term. They did a great job at practising their circus skills on Tuesday afternoon and we were all very proud of them for their delightful singing and dancing performance in the showcase on Thursday. 
We wish you all a wonderful Easter break and look forward to welcoming you back for the Summer Term.  
 

Spring 2 Week 4

In English, the children have continued to imagine the changes they would make if they were in charge of the world. They have finished their poems inspired by Juliet Voirst ‘If I Were In Charge Of The World’.  
We continued our Fractions unit in Maths, this week we have focused on thirds.
The children made us all very proud leading Collective Worship this week and have all been awarded as stars for their great achievement.
 

Spring 2 Week 3

In English this week the children have been imagining what changes they would make if they were in charge of the world. They have started creating poems inspired by Juliet Voirst ‘If I Were In Charge Of The World’.  
We started our Fractions unit in Maths, this week we have focused on halves and quarters.
The children had great fun creating optical illusions for Science Day this week and look forward to sharing their illusions with you.
 

Spring 2 Week 2

This week in our DT lesson, Key Stage One began to build their Ferris wheels which they designed. We are learning about mechanisms and how we can create a moving mechanism. The children worked in groups of 3 and focused on building the wheel with lolly pop sticks. Next lesson, we will build the A frame and create an axel so that our Ferris wheel spins! All the children are super excited about this project! We will update you on our progress in the coming weeks!

Spring 2 Week 1

The children have enjoyed a trip out this week visiting St Mary Magdelene CE Primary School for Twosday. The children took part in fun Maths activities to support them with their new unit in Properties of Shapes. The children were able to identify many different sided shapes and create 2-D and 3-D shapes using manipulatives.
In English Writing this week the children have enjoyed retelling the story of ‘The Minpins’ by Roald Dahl. They have also been very enthusiastic about our new English Reading text ‘Hotel Flamingo’ by Alex Milway. They did very well at exploring the front cover and retrieving information to predict what the story would be about.
 

Spring 1 Week 6

We have had a busy week looking at how we can keep safe online for Safer Internet Day and reflecting on who helps us to grow emotionally for Children’s Mental Health Week.
In English the children have been practising their sequencing and prediction skills in our new text ‘The Minpins’ by Roald Dahl.We have now finished our unit on Statistics in Maths and the children are looking forward to Geometry after the Half Term. We wish all the children a wonderful break and look forward to our learning when we return.
 

Spring 1 Week 5

This week KS1 were very excited about their visit from the London Fire Brigade for Aspirations Day. They learnt about the role of a Fire Fighter, how to identify fire hazards and who to contact to have smoke alarms checked. 
In English, the children have been looking at using conjunctions and adverbs in their writing to make it more interesting. In Maths, the children have been drawing pictograms to represent data.
 

Spring 1 Week 4

This week in Maths the children completed their Multiplication and Division assessments. They are now ready to move onto our unit on Statistics next week.
In English the children have been planning and writing their own version of stories following the theme in our writing text ‘The Bear Under The Stairs’ by Helen Cooper.
 

Spring 1 Week 3

The children have had great fun creating pictures with stones, sticks and leaves for Art this week.

In English , we have been writing letters and stories based on our writing text ‘The Bear Under The Stairs’ by Helen Cooper.

In Maths, the children have completed challenges to find multiplication and division fact families.

The children enjoyed being in the Computer Suite this week setting instructions to progam an on-screen object using JIT Turtle.

Spring 1 Week 2

In English this week the children raced to complete as many sentences as they could using homophones. They were excited for the challenge!

In Maths, the children have been looking at fact families for the 2 and 5 times tables. They have also been using their Maths knowledge of Money sharing their views on spending and saving money in PSHE.

Welcome back!

It has been wonderful to welcome the children back and see their enthusiasm to learn. We have spent time learning about each other this week to help create our ‘All About Me’ display. This week in Maths, the children have been able to apply themselves by building on their multiplication knowledge. We are very proud of how much they have remembered! In English, the children wrote their predictions onto speech bubbles for the characters in our Reading  text ‘Rabbit and Bear’. 

Autumn 2 Week 6

This week KS1 have enjoyed researching facts about crocodiles in English to help them produce a non-fiction text. They were able to find many amazing facts about crocodiles to compare with the Crocodile character in our English text ‘How to Find Gold’. 
They have all worked very hard in their Maths and Grammar assessments this week and we are very proud of their efforts.
Their outstanding performance in the Nativity was the highlight for us this week! Thank you to all the parents who came to support.
 

Autumn 2 Week 5

In English this week KS1 have been busy writing persuasive letters. The children have progressed a great deal with their Phonics and they are now ready for assessments. In Maths, we began our Multiplication and Division unit. The children have enjoyed practicing counting in twos, threes, fives, and tens and they have done well at making and adding equal groups. They are now looking forward to sharing their Nativity with you on Thursday 9th December 9.30am!

Nativity Rehearsals 2021

KS1 had great fun painting in the Make, Create and Investigate room this week. They brought to life their visualisations of the underwater scene from our English text How to Find Gold by Viviane Schwarz. In Maths, the children have completed our Money unit by Comparing Money and Finding Change. They have all been working very hard at rehearsing for their Nativity performance. We are all extremely proud of them and look forward to sharing with you all!

Autumn Term 2 Week 3

KS1 have had a busy week in Science this week! We were finally able to fulfil our class trip to the Floating Classroom for our ‘Living Things and Habitats’ topic. The children had great fun exploring birds on the canal and they did an excellent job at sorting the animals into groups of Herbivores, Omnivores and Carnivores. In class, the children showed great team work sorting materials by their shape-changing properties for our ‘Everyday Materials’ unit.

Autumn Term 2 Week 2

This week the children have enjoyed creating their visualisations of sea monsters based on our English text, How to Find Gold by Viviane Schwarz. They worked hard to describe their sea monsters using noun phrases. 
In Maths this week the children have been using base 10 and number lines to support them with addition and subtraction of two 2-digit numbers. We are very proud at how well they have used the column method!
 

Autumn Term 2 Week 1

This week the children have built their own mini habitats in the Make, Create and Investigate room for Science and Art. The children created Woodland, Pond, and Coastal habitats using shoe boxes which they painted and used paper to make plants and animals linked to their habitats.
The children have enjoyed extra reading sessions in the afternoons with our generous volunteers. It is great to see their love for reading!
 

Week 7

This week the children were exercising their speaking and listening skills during their English presentations. The children had spent time researching information about foxes and bears to create an animal fact card and enjoyed sharing all the fun facts they had found.


Children also did a fantastic job at presenting to the whole school the key contributors we have been learning about, Alice Parker and Frederick Jones, for our Black History celebration.
 

Week Six

This week in KS1 got very creative in their art lesson and spent the afternoon painting portraits of their friends. We spent time discussing the different colours they would need to use and to really study their friend’s face to make sure they used colours that would represent their classmates correctly. The children did an amazing job of mixing their own paint colours! They only has 5 colours available to use and managed to mix different colours to create different skin tones. Have a chat to your child to see if they can remember which colours they used to make another colour!

Week Five

The children have enjoyed using technology purposefully to create and manipulate digital content and develop their art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, line, shape, form and space during Computing. In English the children have been using their inference skills to write the thoughts and feelings of the main character in our text Wild.  In Maths, Year 1 have been ordering numbers within 10. Year 2 have been focusing on ordering numbers within 100.

 

 

Week Four

This week KS1 have enjoyed reading for pleasure in the library. In English the children have been focusing on writing a letter to give advice.  In Maths, Year 1 have been comparing objects using key vocabulary, greater than, less than and equal to. Year 2 have been focusing on addition of two digit numbers. Well done to Daan and Nora elected for School Council, Nour and Zahir elected Eco Warriors, Omar and Zayan elected Playground Monitors and Adam and Yaqoub elected Worship Leaders.

 

Week Three

 

The Year 1 and 2 children have had a busy week at school! In English KS1 wrote a persuasive argument and performed a debate around our text Wild by Emily Hughes. In Maths, Year 1 have been counting forwards and backwards to 20. Year 2 have been focusing on using part whole models with tens and ones. Please remember KS1 PE days are Tuesday and Thursday and homework packs are due back on Wednesday.
